Bharat Taxi is India’s first government-backed cooperative cab service
designed to provide affordable and driver-friendly transportation as a transparent alternative to private ride-hailing platforms like Ola and Uber.
India is ushering in a new era of city travel with the launch of Bharat Taxi, a driver-owned cooperative initiative directly challenging Ola, Uber, and other private ride-hailing platforms. Developed under the Union Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Bharat Taxi empowers drivers by giving them full ownership of ride earnings, eliminating commissions, and offering predictable, government-regulated fares.
Starting with 650 driver-owner vehicles in Delhi from November 2025, Bharat Taxi aims to expand to 20 cities and eventually onboard 100,000 drivers by 2030. Through transparent pricing, a mission to address longstanding complaints about high fares, unreliable service, and driver welfare, Bharat Taxi positions itself as a transformative alternative in India’s urban transport landscape.
Driver-Owned and Cooperative Model: Cab drivers, called "Saarthis," become co-owners and shareholders in the Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, allowing them to retain 100% of their fares rather than losing a portion as commission.
Transparent Pricing: Fares are regulated and predictable—there is no surge pricing or hidden fees, addressing a major complaint against existing private cab aggregators.
Diverse Fleet: Offers a range of vehicles including hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs, tempo travellers, and luxury cars for various ride types—outstation, round trip, local transfer, and rentals.
